The University

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) is a public research university located in AmsterdamNetherlands. Established in 1632 by municipal authorities it is the fourth-oldest academic institution in the Netherlands still in operation and is counted as a top-100 university in various world rankings. The UvA is part of the largest research universities in Europe with 31'186 students, 4'794 staff, 1'340 PhD students and an annual budget of €600 million. It is the largest university in the Netherlands by enrollment. The University of Amsterdam has produced six Nobel Laureates and five prime ministers of the Netherlands. The university has been placed in the top 100 universities in the world by five prominent ranking tables. By the QS World University Rankings it was ranked 55th in the world, 14th in Europe, and 1st in the Netherlands in 2022.

The Supervisor

Prof. Dr. Timothy Noël is Full Professor and the Chair of Flow Chemistry at the University of Amsterdam. He received his MSc in Industrial Chemical Engineering in Ghent, followed by a PhD in synthetic organic chemistry at Ghent University. After a Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship at MIT, he joined Eindhoven University of Technology as an Assistant Professor in 2012 and was later promoted to Associate Professor. Professor Noël's research interests lie in the intersection of synthetic organic chemistry and technology, with a focus on flow chemistry. He has received numerous awards for his research, including the KNCV Gold Medal, the IUPAC-ThalesNano Flow Chemistry Award and the ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering Lectureship Award 2022. Professor Noël received an ERC Consolidator Grant in 2022. He is also the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Flow Chemistry.
