My Background

I am Bryan F. Rivadeneira Mendoza, Ecuadorian national, and PhD student at the University of Cordoba (Spain). I studied Chemical Engineering at the Technical University of Manabi (Ecuador). My job experience in the industry is related to water treatment (short stay of half a year) and academically I have worked as a technician in the central research laboratory of the Technical University of Manabi. In the last two years I have gained experience into materials science, specifically in the development of new hybrids from the functionalization of biomass@nanostructures and their application in environmental treatment processes and in heterogeneous catalysis.

My Project

Lignocellulosic waste materials are abundant and renewable resources that can be used as a source of valuable chemicals. The conversion of these materials into pharmaceutical intermediates is an important area of research that has gained significant attention in recent years. The development of new active and selective catalysts is essential for the efficient conversion of these materials into high-value products. The project’s objectives are aligned with the current trends in green chemistry, which aims to develop sustainable processes that minimize waste generation and reduce environmental impact. The use of lignocellulosic waste materials as a feedstock for the production of pharmaceutical intermediates is an excellent example of green chemistry in action. My PhD project aims to develop new catalytic methods in continuous flow for the conversion of lignocellulosic waste materials into pharmaceutical intermediates. The objectives of the project are aligned with the principles of green chemistry, and focuses on the production of furans as pharmaceutical compounds. This research has significant potential to contribute to the development of sustainable processes for the production of high-value chemicals in industry.
