My Background
My name is Defne Serbetci, and I am 26 years old. I am originally from Turkey. After completing my studies at a French high school, I embarked on a journey to further my education by pursuing both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Molecular Chemistry at Sorbonne Université in Paris, France, where I lived for six years. Throughout my academic journey, I had the privilege of gaining valuable experiences that have significantly shaped my path. During my Master's degree, I conducted an internship at the Université Sorbonne, focusing on the synthesis of new copper complexes for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. Subsequently, I had the privilege of participating in a six-month project on the photooxidation of unnatural chiral amino acids with a silicate unit for the generation of carbon radicals at the Parisian Institute of Molecular Chemistry. This project led me to explore photoredox and dual catalysis under the blue light. After these experience, I made the decision to return to Turkey to gain hands-on experience in my field. Recognizing Abdi İbrahim as a prominent leader in R&D within the pharmaceutical industry in Turkey, I applied for a position with the company. I was fortunate to join for several months as an Analytical Method Validation and Transfer analyst, where I had the opportunity to contribute and grow in this dynamic environment.
My Project
My project primarily focuses on the development of flow chemistry and scalable processes, with a specific emphasis on sulfur chemistry. The overarching goal is to create more efficient and environmentally friendly pharmaceutical manufacturing processes through innovative methods and sulfur-related chemical optimizations.
